Absolutely right Martin. Money still very relevant to me. Yet irrelevant to managers that I try to sign players from.

The 25m tv money in the premiership compared to 3m outside if daft.

Should be

20m, 14m, 8m, 4m respectivley

given my communist bias, i tend to agree with rich that prizes should be shared around a bit better. if its worthless to the top flight clubs that have spades of it in shares then they wont mind not having so much reward going forward.

also good point, gaz. even with all the buildings i'm barely making a profit after expenses. money is worth something to me.

right, another thought, what if the tv money is spaced out, so like we get it in 4 installments over the season, im pretty sure thats how its done in the premier league, someone might correct me though, anyway, my 1st point, split the tv money up over the season

i see both sides a bit as i definitely agree with dan's point that there's enough money in the game that there shouldnt be bundles and bundles of cash rewards ontop of existing ones. hence my suggestion to paul last week to cut other prizes slightly (world cup) so that the european comp entrants get better rewards than at present. 5m for winning the CL is pretty pitiful.

in my view its a case of spreading the exisitng rewards so that everyone has a chance to build and benefit. top flight maybe should only get 15m tv money, then give an extra 5m to the championship and league one....assuming league two is going after this season. thats how i think it should be, more spread out. dan and anyone who has loads of cash wont mind not having so much as they already have stock piles. it's pure greed otherwise to say only the rich should be richer, there's no point being rich if it doesnt get you anything, so i see no reason why lower clubs shouldnt benefit more.

and yes lee, maybe payments should be spread out. 3 instalements or something where you got 5m in week 1, then 5m in week 9 and another 5m in week 17 or whatever.

If we move to instalments then to be fair it'll need to have season lead in - I know a number of managers (me included) who have factored in the TV money as it stands for major transfers/team rebuilding in a couple of weeks.

that is quite correct. though the only thing i've factored in is the need for a central midfielder, a centre forward and a right back. i dont think even 25m would cater for two decent-ish or one decent player, but i can try Smile

Personally I don't think it needs changing.

The extra cash you get in the top divisions is what we are all striving for - it shouldnt be easy to get there - it should be a challenge like it is at the moment!

Fair point James.

Have to say the challenge of taking the bunch of shitters I inherited anywhere but down is why I love this game. Just don't see the point if managing Milan, Madrid, Utd etc

I used to love playing champ manager with barnet or some other crappers, working your way up the leagues us surely the whole point of the game.

Can I assume the only person to do this successfully is Dan?, have any other traditionally lower league teams ever had a sustained spell in top flight CF?

Empoli and Cremonese were both superbly managed by Rupert Brooks and Geoff Scott from the bottom of Serie B to the top of Serie A. both sides remain strong. Cremonese were much better before they were raped when gaz took over.

Roma were were nothing short of shit when i took them over. Not that much has changed since then...ha. still, what i have now is better than the over 35's of Cafu and elber that i started with, its been a challenge. I guess Dan would say he's been where everyone else is so it can be done. just takes time and patience i suppose.

like i said, i think in england you guys might get more money since the PL and spanish league are the two most lucrative. Palermo got about 50p last year. though thats more than the gate receipts they've had all season which remains zero. the club is 10 million in debt but its the chairman's problem not mine as far as im concerned since the the money in from player sales is greater than that they've spent, there's no other way i can generate them income.

i sold 14,000 season tickets....my gates are still only 7,000 though which makes perfect sense! i did ask paul why this is and i got no answer. why would only half of my season ticket holders turn up? who knows!

but anyway, basically paul's answer to me getting no gate receipts was due to the fact that i sold 14,000 season tickets and nobody else wants to turn up. still, only half of them are even turning up. next season they wont have a single season ticket holder cos it seems silly to me to have that money upfront and then they dont turn up at the door. if 14,000 people want to buy a season ticket then 14,000 people should turn up for the games and i'll get more moeny from not selling a season ticket then selling one. that's the theory anyway.

I've a bit behind in this thread, but in reply to Martin's earlier post:

Martin@Bohemians wrote:
I got £10M for winning WC and £1M for winning my domestic cup, I also expect to finish 3rd in the Eircom so woll get a bit of prize money for that. I also expect to get about about £2.5M TV rights money (not the £25M that Serie A & Premiership teams get).

If you enter the Champions league you get a guaranteed £500k per game for the group stage which last season equated to £3M just for taking part, even if your team was torn apart 8-0 in each game. Yet the prize that Rob got for winning the Europa League was only £1M. Hmmm

I disagree with with Dan and feel that there should in fact be more prize money on offer and not less. Anyone that feels money is now redundant is the game should get out of your comfort zone and take on a smaller club from scratch, then you would see how bloody redundant that money is.

No offence Dan but if you feel that you have a load of money that nobody wants as you stated in another post, I can let you have a couple of totally crap English eligible players at a few million each.

Always good to have two sides to an argument Martin, as long as good arguments are put forward. Money is a bit like injuries in this game, not exactly redundant but not as important as it should be. Your best player broke his leg in twelve places last week? No problem! Just get a specialist to rub it with a little cash and hey presto he's good as new! Need some more cash in the game? Sign up for the WC, a Europe game or even play lots of friendlies! And there are many more ways of making easy cash too (but I wont be going in to details) . How many of the big players go for straight cash in CF these days? Not many I bet. Players are far more valuable than cash currently and I'd like to see this changed.

As an aside, I've done the smaller club thing a couple of times now, firstly with Plymouth (best player was an ageing Alan Smith when I took Plymouth on, having been promised Spurs!) and then with Celtic in game 4, although that game wasn't as competitive as this one in my opinion.

Dan I agree with you that there are ways and means of raising money, or rather modest amount's of money within the game, however as I am sure you will remember from when you first started out that the prize and tv money on offer is an enourmous assistance in growing a small club. After all there are so many ways to spend money a lot of which are pointless.

I also don't like the specialist ruling in order to rush players back, after all in real life clubs will send an injured player to see a specialist yet this seldomly means a player will return more quickly it merely means that he will heal more effectively from his injury.

I also agree with you fully and absolutely that when trying to sign a squad player from another manager that he seldom if ever uses the answer is usually ''well who are you willing to swap for him''. This is frustating as it prevents smaller club's from building. Thankfully there are still a few managers who are willing to do cash deals.

I was not having a pop at you directly Dan but your comment on the Plymouth availables post regarding money is indicative of the way that this game has gone over the past few years. And I was simply using your comment as an example of the current state of affairs.

Good post Martin, I agree with pretty much everything you say in it. However I don't see how increasing the prize pool money will help?
